NEW TIME: IN-PERSON STEAM SPRING BREAK CAMP FOR SENIORS AND AMBASSADORS
It's that time again. We're excited to have you join us for..
GSSNV Spring Break STEAM Camp: NOW IN PERSON
Through our Outstanding Community Partner of GSSNV, Code Central, campers will participate and learn in each of the STEAM disciplines through hands-on learning and mentoring from our experienced female instructors. The aim of this camp is to engage the girls scouts by combining instruction, virtual and physical project creating, and collaboration in a supportive, enriching and fun learning environment.
Through this in-person camp, participants receive guided learning from live instructors as they explore emerging technologies and create personalized projects that can be shared with friends and family. In addition to learning about the possibilities of coding, they will also develop their math, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, explore creativity, and develop more confidence and perseverance as they overcome obstacles.
Seniors & Ambassadors
Learning how electricity works and how electrical components interact are important to understanding how different technologies work. In this camp, the older Girl Scouts will apply the concepts they learn to activate a device with a secret code that can then begin operating on its own. They will develop their understanding of Computer Science and solidify coding concepts in a visually appealing way by learning to create their very own video game. Utilizing a powerful web-based game development software, they will be introduced to more complex coding concepts and make an exciting adventure game. Additionally, they will learn a web-based music making software, and collaborate with other girls, working together to make the next hit song!
The topics/activities covered in the 4 day camp include:
Day 1: Game Development - Explore and learn how coding is used for video game development and begin working on creating a video game. Finalize a project and have a personally created game to share with friends and family.
Day 2: Robotics - Begin exploring the programming environment for coding robotics and experience hands-on application of concepts using the physical components supplied in the provided robotics kits. Apply the learning to begin building an individual engineering project!
Day 3: Robotics/Music Creation - Continue to learn and explore electrical engineering as it applies to Robotics and further develop a personal project to completion. Next, be introduced to a web application for making music and learn how to create melodies to being to write a song.
Day 4: Music Creation/Virtual Tours - Further explore the world of digital music creation and complete a personalized song. Explore the worlds of Art and Science via virtual museum tours. Complete the camp experience with reflection on the week of learning and project creation and discuss challenges and possibilities of STEAM learning and application.
This is a 4-DAY in-person event. All materials provided, and a fun patch is included at the end of the event.
