2020 Highest Awards Ceremony update (May 18, 2020)

May 18, 2020

Girl Scouts,

As we move forward with planning our virtual summer and fall programs, I wanted to provide an update on the 2020 Highest Awards Ceremony. As mentioned on March 30, GSSNV had been actively planning our annual Highest Awards Ceremony for April 26. With COVID-19 rapidly escalating, we made the difficult decision to postpone the ceremony.

While Nevada has entered Phase 1 of Governor Sisolak’s Roadmap to Recovery , we do not yet have a good idea of when we will be allowed to hold large-scale events such as the Highest Awards Ceremony. To ensure that our Girl Scouts who have earned the highest honors in Girl Scouting can be properly celebrated, we will recognize the 2020 Gold Award Girl Scouts, graduating seniors, and scholarship recipients during a virtual celebration on Sunday, June 14, 2020 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm.

2020 Bronze Award Girl Scouts and Silver Award Girl Scouts will be recognized and celebrated at the Highest Awards Ceremony in 2021. Certificates for Bronze and Silver Awards will be mailed this summer.

While this is not how we pictured celebrating, we have made this decision with the health and safety of our Girl Scouts, volunteers, and staff top of mind.

Whether she earned the Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award, earned an academic scholarship, or graduated during this unprecedented time, your Girl Scout demonstrated extraordinary leadership that will be set her apart for years to come.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Yvette Hairston

March 30, 2020

Girl Scouts,

Let me be one of the first to congratulate you on earning one of the highest honors in Girl Scouting. Whether a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award Girl Scout, your commitment to community service and making our world a better place will leave a lasting impact on our community and the world.

As we continue to follow the developments of COVID-19, the safety and wellbeing of our members is always our top priority. While we were in the planning stages of the 2020 Highest Awards Ceremony scheduled for April 26th  and with COVID-19 rapidly escalating, our venue cancelled all external events through the month of April. As we were reaching out to other venue partners, Governor Sisolak ordered all non-essential businesses to close.

While it was our full intention to hold the Highest Awards Ceremony on April 26th, we realize now that is not possible and have made the difficult decision to postpone the ceremony to June 2020

We want to celebrate and honor our Girl Scouts in the best way we know how. Be on the lookout from GSSNV on ways we will be celebrating our Highest Award Girl Scouts in the months to come.

Congratulations, again, we look forward to celebrating YOU!

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Yvette Hairston

2020 Girl Scout Grad Night postponement

March 30, 2020

Graduating Seniors,

Let me be one of the first to congratulate you on being a member of the class of 2020! For four years, you worked hard to accomplish your goals and you should be celebrated. We know that many events and ceremonies have been postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19, but we want to assure you that GSSNV is planning on holding our 2020 Girl Scout Grad Night in the summer to celebrate YOU!

While all in-person GSSNV events are being postponed through April 13 (as of March 30) we will notify you of a date for the Girl Scout Grad Night as soon as we can.

Congratulations, again, and we look forward to celebrating YOU!

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Yvette Hairston

Rock the Dam

(April 30, 2020) Due to social distancing guidelines, GSSNV will celebrate bridging virtually this year. Stay tuned for a national bridging ceremony from GSUSA (date is TBD).

**

As we look ahead to our events planned for May, we have made the difficult decision to postpone Rock the Dam 2020 for the safety and wellbeing of our Girl Scouts, families, and council staff. At this time, the Hoover Dam is closed to all visitors until further notice. We are working with the Bureau of Reclamation to schedule an alternative date as soon as the Nevada stay at home orders are lifted.

As we continue to follow the developments of COVID-19, the safety and wellbeing of our members is always our top priority. Rock the Dam is an annual event that our bridging Girl Scouts, families, and council staff look forward to every year and we did not make this decision lightly. While all in-person GSSNV events are being postponed through April 30th, we will notify you as soon as we can of an alternative date for Rock the Dam.

Any payments will not expire and will be honored for when we reschedule the event.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Yvette Hairston
