Her Story - Ashley Smith

At age 14, Ashley earned money through the Girl Scout Cookie Program to travel with Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada to India. While there, she and her sister Girl Scouts made a difference in the lives of women and children by providing service in local women’s shelters and orphanages. Here is an excerpt of a letter home from Ashley:
Hi momma! I just wanted to update you on what I've been doing I'm working with the orphans and the mentally challenged women of Pune (where Sangam is) and it has been the most beautiful experience I've ever had in my life. I can't wait to show you pics. The children call me Didi (older sister) or auntie. One girl is 8 years old and has a mental disability. I didn't get to see her yesterday and today when I came downstairs she ran up to me and hugged me. She can't say anything she only repeats something no one really knows but she smiled so big and grabbed my hands and wanted to dance (she jumped up and down). Her adorable face was unforgettable. The fact that this girl remembered me made me cry it was so amazing. There are so many stories. Share this with the family and friends please :) night mom love you!
Your support makes opportunities like this a reality for all girls! Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program Ashley learned important skills like goal setting, money management, ethics, and people skills. Ashley chose to put her skills to good use, making the world a better place.
