Remembering and celebrating the deceased has been a significant part of life in Mesoamerica for thousands of year. Even with the drastic changes brought by the Spanish conquest, the indigenous people were able to retain this long held practice and combine it with Spanish aspects to create what is now known as Día de Muertos.
Girl Scouts will learn the history behind this holiday through games and hands-on activities. Then girls and their families or troops will bring supplies to build and prepare an altar honoring a historic female figure who provided important contributions to our world.
